Prayer Shawl Sponsors a Grandmother

Recently the Prayer Shawls Ministry sponsored a grandmother. When Barbara Currie returned from her trip to India this winter, she told us about her time at the Family Village Farm in Kasam, Katapadi, near Vellore where she volunteered.
The Family Village Farm is a part of the Global Ministries Child and Elder Sponsorship program, sponsored by the United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ. Its mission is to improve conditions of the young and aged in this area of India. It provides a home for the elders (and the orphans) who have no place to live and no family to care for them.
The elders here are given the opportunity to live out their lives in dignity in an environment where they feel loved and cared for. The Prayer Shawl group has decided to sponsor Ms. Elizabeth B., a woman Barbara got to know while she was there. Elizabeth is about 66 years old, never married and worked for 46 years as a live-in housekeeper and babysitter for the Dean of Nursing at the Christian Medical Center. Her background is Hindu, but she converted to Christianity in 2000 and is very devout.
Our sponsorship helps to provide shelter, medicine and meals for Elizabeth as well as special needs she might have. We will get regular updates on Elizabeth as well as be able to send her cards. For more information go to their website: http://www.mbkgpkasam.org/ (called in Tamil—Mudhiyor Balar Kudumba Gramma Pannai)
At our last Prayer Shawl meeting, we made prayer squares to send to Elizabeth and the other Elders.
